Photographs copyright of Bill Collins
Bill Collins will be exhibiting at the main branch of the Long Beach Library on Ocean Blvd. at Pacific Ave. The exhibit opened July 1 and will be up until August 29. The Library is open Tuesday through Saturday from !0:00 to 5:00. The exhibition is in 2 sections of 12 prints each.
The first section titled “Window Scenes” is work made photographing through windows of closed second hand stores which are located in the “Retro Row” area of Fourth Street in Long Beach. The work attempts to exploit the visual interest of the “found object” while making reference to the classical “Still Life”.
The other section titled “Soviet Posters” is multiple exposure work derived from photographs of Soviet posters made in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in 1985 just before Glastnos. It presents in fantasy form strong Russian graphic art design used largely for propaganda purposes of the Soviet state.
